Hmm, that is odd, because the ssh_slave class doesn't do anything unusual - it just runs "ssh iblade003" and fires up a copy of Python at the other end. Usually I would be tempted to suspect autofs (if you auto-mount those partitions; sometimes autofs can be a little slow and not mount them in time) or a permissions/environment issue.
